Arizona State University fired head coach Tracy Smith less than twenty-four hours after they were eliminated from postseason in the NCAA Austin Regional . . . Smith was with the Sun Devils for seven seasons . . . Arizona State did not advance to a Super Regional in those seven seasons.

Arizona State was 1–2 in the Austin Regional . . . They were walk-off winners against the Fairfield Stags on Friday night, taking the game in the bottom of the ninth . . . They were soundly defeated by the Texas Longhorns (as was everyone else in the Austin Regional) on Saturday night, 10–3 . . . They were eliminated on Sunday afternoon by the same Fairfield team they had walked-off on Friday night after leading 5–0 in the third inning,

2020 was perhaps Smith’s best Sun Devils squad, but with the season cut short, no one will ever know just how good that team could have been.
